What is search engine optimization (SEO): Meaning and Examples

Here search engine optimization is explained. An attempt has been made to explain all types of SEO.

What is Search engine optimization (SEO)

Search engine optimization is a process by which a website can be ranked on search engines (Google, Bing, etc). Our main objective is to bring more and more traffic (no. of users visiting a website) to our website. And when is this possible? When our website appears at the top of the search engine results page. And we can do this using search engine optimization.

On page SEO

In on-page SEO (on-site SEO), we optimize web pages to rank on search engines. In this, work on the quality and relevance of content, speed of loading web pages, meta titles, meta descriptions, heading tags, etc.

Content

Content should be human written. Content should be unique and should not be copied from anywhere. The topic on which we are creating content, Keywords related to that topic should be in our content. That’s why before writing content, we do keyword research. With this, search engines know what our content is about, and the user reaches the right content according to their query.

Keywords should be repeated in the content. The result of using long-tail keywords is good. But it should not be so, repeat the keyword so much that the value of the content is lost.

Meta title

The blue colour heading that is shown in the search results of the search engine is called meta title. Its length should be between 60 and 65 characters.

Meta description

On the search engine results page, a short description of content below the blue colour heading is called a meta description. Its length should be less than 160 characters.

Header tags

Heading tags and header tags are HTML codes by which we tell the search engine which heading has how much importance.

We give the H1 tag to the main heading, which is the title of our blog or article. All the primary headings inside the title are given an h2 tag. H2 headings have h3 tags if they have headings inside.

In this way, we can arrange our headings from H1 to H6 according to the need.

Image alt text

Image alt text is used for images added to Web pages. It has many roles.

As the image is never loaded due to network problems, there will be an image alt text show, with the help of which we can understand what is in that image.

In image search on search engines, images are searched with image alt text. This helps a lot in SEO.

Internal linking

Linking one content to another through hyperlinks is called internal linking. External linking, we will read further in off-page SEO.

Page loading speed

The higher the speed of opening the website by clicking, the higher the rank of the website. A website that takes time to open on Google, that website gets down in rank, so it is also necessary to have good speed of the website.

Schema markup

There is a code that we apply on the website, with the help of which search engines can easily understand the content of web pages.

Mobile usability

A large number of people open websites on mobile. Therefore, our website should be responsive to mobile devices so that the user gets a good experience on mobile. If the website is not showing properly on mobile or is not opening, the user will go to other websites and Google will reduce the rank of our website.

Off-page SEO

The action we apply outside our website to improve authority and rank is called off-page or off-site SEO.

Link building is the process by which we link our web pages to other websites, through this link, users reach our website. It also improves the authority of our website, which improves the search engine ranking of our web pages. The more links you build, the more authenticity on the search engine increases and the search engine ranking improves.

But it is important to link only on quality sites. Low-quality sites or link spamming negatively impacts both the authority and thus the ranking.

Technical SEO

In many places, technical SEO will also be seen in SEO types. Speed of page loading, schema markup, responsiveness on all devices, all these come under technical SEO. But all these are part of on-page SEO only.

Whether you are following the guidelines of search engines or not, Based on this, there are two ways to do SEO

Black hat SEO

This is an unethical way of SEO. If we use the technique to rank the search engine that does not follow the guidelines of the search engine, Black Hat SEO is played.

Such websites start ranking quickly, but such websites are sometimes banned. Using duplicate content like taking content from any website and adding it to your web page.

Keyword stuffing, Unnecessary use of keywords, placing hidden keywords using text in the background like colour.

White hat SEO

This is the ethical way of SEO. It includes SEO techniques that follow search engine guidelines.  Such a website does not give very quick results but gives sustainable results for a long time.

Unique, well-researched, human-written content is used so that the user gets a good experience. use all the techniques learned in on-page SEO. Users should be satisfied with our content.

Add keywords according to the needs of the content.
